Testing Mobile Apps and Websites: Conquering the Multitude with the help of Automation
Michael Yudanin

About the Topic

Mobile devices pose a formidable challenge for software testing: multiple platforms, unyielding operating systems, and release cycles that frequently take less than a week, just to name a few. How can we provide high quality testing in this environment? The answer lies in translating the challenges into testing methods and techniques. The session will offer specific approaches that can help in coping with unique mobile functionalities like location services and reception sensitivity, problems like typing on a soft keyboard and testing devices for memory leaks, and more. In many cases, test automation is of a great help; in some cases, it is a necessary component of the solution. Hence, the session will survey a number of mobile test automation methods, offer an analysis of their advantages and disadvantages, and provide a demo of one innovative approach that enables using common test automation tools with mobile devices.

Key Learning Objectives

  • How to translate the challenges of mobile testing into test strategy components
  • Specific techniques to cope with the most challenging aspects of mobile testing
  • What are the different ways to automate test for mobile platforms and what are their advantages and disadvantages
